conveyancer quit

I am almost at the very end of searches for a property purchase, working on a tight deadline now because the searches have been really slow. All sides of the transaction (management company, my solicitors, seller's solicitors) blame each other for the delays. Not great. Now, my solicitor has suddenly quit, even though last week we were speaking about completing in the next few weeks. She left the firm without telling me or giving me any notice. I found out by an automated email. Another conveyancer at the firm has now taken over her case, but of course, given the fact she only received my files today, this will lead to undue delays. It doesn't seem very ethical of my previous conveyancer to do, but does anyone know if there is a claim of some sort here? I may have to book a hotel because my current lease is expiring and it will lead to significant financial loss.

Law firms often instruct departing staff not to tell clients. It is the firm's responsibility to provide a professional service to its clients. Bang the drum with the new lawyer.

It sounds unlikely that you would have recorse aainst the conveyancer - he or she merely does as told.


More than that you had not reached a point beyond 'we were speaking about completing in te next few weeks'. As a conveyancer of old, that means nothing - sorry.
