  • Charity owning property?

I will keep this as short as possible but feel devastated! 2020 offer accepted on a property. After a few hold ups just about to exchange contracts and the owner passed away (elderly lady) left property to a charity who have now decided they want to put it back on the market as we are two years on. Am I powerless here or is there anything I can do?

No. You either had or hadn't exchanged contracts. The charity has statutory duties to get valuations before selling the property at the best price it can get.

YES, you could make a new offer on the property being offered by the Charity.

A neew offer can be made, but a charity has a statutory duty to go through several steps, including betting it properly valued before it can be sold. It may well end up at auction.

Thank you for your replies. Unfortunately the charities won't accept an offer on the property they want to put it up for sale. Looks like they won't even cover the legal costs for the last 2 years either :-(

They cannot do as you ask. They have a legal obligation imposed on them by the Charities Act, and follow it they must and will. It is unfortunate but inevitable.
