  • Law Firm’s liability for delayed house sale

I’m sure others might have asked this but I don’t know where I stand legally on this. We are in the process of selling our house and buying another one and have had numerous issues with the firm representing us. We instructed them for the sale of our house on Feb 11th and after taking our money, pretty much went silent on us. The office handling our case closed last month and all cases were picked up by their London office to manage. Essentially, we have missed the stamp duty deadline which I feel is because of the delays by the firm representing us which I’m obviously very salty about. One of the main sticking points is that the Solictor representing the people buying our house sent a list of enquiries through to our Solictor on April 25th which they didn’t sent to me until June 5th. It was literally a case of forwarding an email to me. As a result, we can’t deal with the enquiries in time for completion at the end of this month and I’m not too happy about it. This is just one of the issues but they generally all involve lack of communication for weeks at a time. At one point I waited 6 weeks for a response to an email (this should have probably raised alarm bells).

Do I have any grounds for compensation here?

    Thanks in advance.
