  • best method to pay deposit on a room to ensure protection?

    Hi
have been offered a job in Jersey and have found a room via FB group page
All seems legit, am not asking for advice or warnings on potential scams relating to this aspect but..
i am required to put a deposit into their bank account and wondered the best way to offer myself protection in oing so?
    Bank Transfer via credit card?
would i be eligible for a charge back?
    Would PayPal be better?
    thanks in advance

Have you physically seen the room?
Is it being rented through an individual or an agency?
To be honest with you, it is ringing alarm bells with me. Have you had a skype conversation with them so that you know that they are real?
If you do not know or do not have personal recommendation from someone you trust or a trusted source(facebook is not one them btw).
I would research the place and the person you are going to deal with thoroughly(I'd have found out their family tree in my research but I do take it a bit far tbh).

Anything that is a cash transaction or is classed as a cash advance(credit card one) has relatively little protection for you.

ok thanks, yes am aware of the high risk involved on this kind of transaction, however i have befriended them on FB and can see their timeline goes back a few years and tallies with what has been said, have had many conversations via FB and all seems well, unfortunately the market is very competitive and rooms are getting snapped up in seconds not even minutes, so i had to get something secured otherwise i would be arriving without accomodation

Go with your gut feeling on this one.

Only other comment I will make is that a transfer from the credit card will attract interest at the cash advance fee level.
