The landlord of the house we used to live in gave us two months to leave the property because they were selling it. We left on time after giving it a good cleaning once it was empty of everything.
We had issues with a lock on the bathroom window as there was no key to it to open it. The landlord instructed us to drill out the barrel of the lock and they will get a new one. We did this but they never got a new lock. They are now saying the entire window had to be replaced.
The only other damage we could find was a couple of kitchen tiles which had raised up and cracked due to the heat from the fridge motor that had sat there for 4 years. The landlord has said they could not find any matching kitchen tiles so have had to retile the entire kitchen floor.
They also said there was mould in the bathroom and kitchen which needed sorting. There was no mould when we left but the landlord was aware it could happen to an empty property as they instructed us to leave the heating on, which we did. As it was almost a month from us handing the keys in, to the landlord inspecting the property, can we be held responsible for any mould that may have appeared in that time?
Because of the above, the landlord refuses to give any of the £870 deposit we paid into the deposit scheme.
We have asked for receipts to confirm the work was done but they have not supplied any. Can they keep the deposit in this situation and do they have to provide receipts when asked for them?
Thank you
