Re: Petition on banning letting agents charges

First class thread started here! I thought that this was actively under government consideration? It's just another example of corporate greed by agents who get greedy on raising charges simply 'because they can' . Anyone who is desperate for rented accommodation has to face the wrath of this 'taxation by need' and it is totally unfair. The charges are not even nominal and seem to cover just about anything and everything. I realise that these guys need to be kept in select offices with sharp suits and silk ties but they should be funded by landlords primarily. After all, tenants are their life blood, and not an open cheque book. There needs to be urgent intervention by government here.

Completely agree with Scottish action, and IMO the same should apply to any insurance "intermediary" or "broker".

If these third party go betweens are remunerated properly by the principals, there is no need for them to add on fees.
Those that don't give a satisfactory service lose business, and so don't earn sufficient commission to survive, and eventally will go to the wall.
The present systems allow them to continue trading and ripping off their clients.

Not forgetting, of course, the temptations of 'secret commissions', backhanders & bungs, all ultimately paid for by the tenant.
