A delightful tale am sure could come of this kind of experience afforded only to a select few.:tinysmile_twink_t2:

        Re: Trespassing sheep?

and is currently 4ft pigwire topped with chickenwire and wood struts (which stops the dogs).
Are you sure they're jumping that high? (4ft is shoulder height for me and add the extra struts & chicken wire...) If so - are you sure they're sheep? :biggrin1:

A fence like that, as long as the pigwire is properly tensioned with no gaps, should certainly be sheep proof (ours are only 3ft and non-negotiable by sheep). Generally escapologist sheep do so by barging through gaps, eating through hedges, scrambling over walls or getting down on their tummies to shimmy through gaps under gates - all activities usually inspired by food (greener grass) or panic. I'm intrigued!

I'd've thought if the fence is dog proof it's also sheep proof.

The owner of the sheep has strict liability to keep the animals on his own property.
An exception to this would be if the sheep are grazing common land ie in these parts there are many areas where sheep graze freely over huge areas, even with public highways passing through (eg Brecon Beacons, Forest of Dean etc) and are not actually confined to any particular holding. In that case anyone living there and not wanting sheep roaming onto their property would be obliged to fence them out, as you describe. I assume some of that goes on oop North too :tinysmile_twink_t2:

I don't think it would be a good idea to tuck into them, though. :tongue2:

The dog issue is more an animal welfare one, especially as we're heading into the lambing season. Also, if any dog gets a taste for worrying sheep (or worse) then.....:tinysmile_cry_t:

I'll see if I can get my friend to video 'em for you :tinysmile_twink_t2: They've been in the garden with the dogs when it's happened.
