Re: Severe Damp throughout the property

This is a little off-topic, but I am intrigued as to how you managed to quote ME when it was actually AME who posted the below, yet on your post it appear as if you were quoting me. :noidea:

This is what happens when only half a story is told, for example there was no mention of the vents being taped up. I was also under the impression that you had used a S21 to get rid of a troublesome tenant so if I misunderstood i apologise.

Where i sort of live now has condensation problems and we are just about to spend money on the Nuaire product. Of course another major cause of condensation is just being there. So if you are out at work all day there will be a lot less water vapour than if you are at home all day looking after say a kid or two.

Re: Severe Damp throughout the property

Well, just to add a bit of confusion... I live in a very old and damp farmhouse. The damp (and consequent mildew-if-you're-not-careful etc) is caused by excess salt in the rubble in the very thick "stone" walls, for which there is no cure (bar demolition, and then you'd have to check for salt). The best advice is:

        Good ventilation/air circulation

Use old fashioned breathable paint (ie limewash) rather than modern waterproof paint

Eschew modern damp solutions hawked by get-rich-quick firms - they make it much, much worse.

Keep difficult rooms warm with circulating air.

Froot, upstairs maisonette by any chance?

To fix that you will need either a heater at the bottom of the stairs or some form of positive air pressure system. Cavity wall insulation may help as well.

The bedroom picture suggests damp coming maybe from the flat above, or is there a terrace or balcony above where water accumulates?

I can't see that being caused by normal condensation, in my bedroom sometimes there's water running down the glass, but not a spec of mould in the ceiling.

What's above that stairway? Is it the roof?

Yes it is. I open the door for at least 2 hours a day to try drying it out i don't know if thats the right thing to do? Theres always a puddle of water at the bottom of the stairs and droplets of water actually dripping onto the light switch .. dangerous

The inspector came round before christmas and said somebody would be round after christmas to put boards up however i heard that will not stop the damp coming through. My son is only 2 and has had chest problems in the past.
