  • Condemned boiler still not replaced 6 months later

I have lived in my housing association home for 20 yrs. last September the yearly gas safety check was carried out but the engineer was only here for less than 5 minutes where as in previous years it could take over an hour. 2 months later an independent advisor came out to check the work had been carried out properly. He immediately slapped a condemned sticker on my boiler, told me it was dangerous to use because it is boxed in there is no way they could have serviced it, so it should not have been passed as checked. He said to contact H A, to come and replace it ASAP. I did this and they told me that they had already planned to replace my boiler with a combi boiler and that someone would be round to measure up. The guy came a week later and since then I have heard nothing.
I have constantly called them, have made 2 formal complaints and have had no heating. They say they are dealing with it, but they never return my calls and fob me off every time I ring them. Surely if this boiler is a danger, then they are putting us at risk by not replacing it. Shall I threaten them with legal action???? Any advice is most welcome. Thank you.

Contact the Environmental Health Dept at your Local Authority offices

Central heating systems are needed to prevent damp/ mold etc that can effect public health and the conditions of buildings etc

The local authority can force a landlord/housing association to rectify a fault in a certain amount of time, tell the council this has now been going on for 6 months, and that it is totally unacceptable and unreasonable to continue with delay
