Re: Tenancy, no bill no payment

What if the OP's friend claimed HB at the outset and the local authority has been paying his rent direct to the housing association ever since. That's normal with HAs although you would expect an annual rent statement which may have gone unnoticed due to depression.

There must have been a solicitor involved in the sale transaction which was combined with the setting up of the housing association lease-back deal, so all the relevant information will be in the firm's file. That would be my starting point since it won't set off any alarms 'elsewhere' untill all the facts have been established.

When I did this, the sale was a totally separate issue to any rent back one. Solicitors obviously dealt with the sale, the social housing association dealt with the renting of the property to us. You don't automatically go onto a permanent tenancy, you have to do a probationary period with inspections, and they have to get your house up (or down in our case) to a specific standard.

HB would not have been part of this. Again I think HB would have been a separate claim. I am not sure of the latter bit as I can't claim any benefits.

You have a choice when you are entitled to HB,,either have it paid to you,,or directly to HA,,and we get quarterly statements. However,,if you are in rent arrears or muck about paying your rent the HA can get it paid directly to them without your consent.
