should i take the first offer they have made or should i hold off . i was told by some folks on the site that i had missed the deadline , but i complained anyway , this was in november 2012 . and today they have said they are upholding my complaint and have made an offer . if i turn it down could i end up loosing it .

It is probable that they will have followed a standard method of calculation. So you should ask them to show you how they calculated what you were entitled to. Once they have decided liability it is unlikely they will be trying to shave the offer - it is either appropriately-calculated or not. You might also consider referring to the Ombudsman if you don't think the amount is fair.
