    Re: Mortgage Payments Protection Insurance

It's the 'Same old, same old,' I'm afraid, cap'n. Ringing them merely gives them the opportunity to fob you off with well-rehearsed routines. Unless you have written confirmation of what was said, then you have nothing. Did you get the name of the guy that gave you this carp ? Did you ask him/her their position within the firm ? I doubt it.

Yet - I'll bet they asked you all sorts of 'security' questions when you called. Right ? They know your DOB and your dear Mother's maiden name, I'll bet.

Avoid the phone at all costs, mate. That's where they love to get you. If it's not in writing, then it doesn't exist as far as the courts are concerned. And they know that.

I usually avoid the phone with these types as I have caught them lying to me in the past.

I usually write down the name of the agent right away and I had when I called to cancel the MPPI. Their insurance wing did write out, stating MPPI cancelled, but I just thought I'd had a wordwith the mortgage fellas themselves. There will be bother if that mortgage payment hasn't changed to reflect the cancellation of the MPPI and something tells me it won't. Watch this space.

My apologies for doubting you. Let no quarter be given - and none asked. Good man, say I !!!

So, it's been bugging me. Called 'em back again and it was indeed confirmed that the MPPI has been minced. Got a name, this time, though there was that 'taste the blood' silence at the other end as she hesitated before firmly giving me her name!

Yesterday, we also sacked the balance of a tied loan we had on the house. When I called to enquire of a settlement figure, they seemed very curious as to why I wanted to settle. No real reason, said I, just want it out the way. Then, when I agreed to the figure and said I'd settle there and then, they would not accept it via bank transfer; I would have to pay it off at the branch it was taken out in! Good job I didn't live hundreds of miles away from that branch!

In any event, my wife got a bank cheque (we bank elsewhere) and went in to see them yesterday lunchtime. Well, talk about a dummy-spit!! They were not happy, at all, about the settlement, pressing for a reason as to why we wanted to pay it off. They seemed dumbfounded that we were paying it off and not actually extending it!

So, this month also sees the moving of the life assurance (assuming we can do it) to another party and for probably a lot less than we have been paying these rogues over the years. By finally biting the bullet and cancelling policies and paying off the tied loan, we are £200 better off per month, £200 that could have been going to a gang of liars and cheats and when you look at that figure and project it to the mortgage and tied loan completion, you will start to understand why those over-paid suits were acting all brusque and sullen when they saw on their screens how much we were moving away from them!

Only the mortgage left!! Roll on a lottery win so I can p*** them off by paying that off early, too!
