Hi all:tinysmile_grin_t:
I was wondering if anyone had any issues with bungling contractors/workmen? I think mine are related to Mr Bean!
Going back before Christmas of 2008, I reported that I had damage/wear and tear to my external wooden door. So a guy from my Housing Association came round with his clip board to assess my door and he agreed and said that it would need replacing. Christmas came and went and what I thought would be a simple(?!) task has turned into a bit of a farce lol.
I have posted here a copy of the letter I wrote to the guy who came round to assess my door.
Dear Mr xxxxxx
I am a resident of xxxxxxx and as you may know that before Christmas 2008 I requested a new replacement of my wooden external door. After an inspection by you (Housing Association rep) it was agreed that Sykes contractors would come to my home and undertake the replacement.
Sykes told me that I could select a replacement door from their brochure and that I should give them a ring with my chosen selection.
The external door that was selected was the upvc ‘Hanbury One house number’ and Sykes agreed they would check stock levels and then they would ring me at my home to confirm my selection. It was agreed that the ‘Hanbury One house number’ would be the chosen replacement for my old wooden external door.
However, when the time came for Sykes to arrive at my home to undertake the work to replace my door, the door replaced was not the one I selected. I was told by Sykes that I could not have the ‘Hanbury One house number. The door replaced was the Aston Three with frosted glass. I was not notified about this ‘change’ beforehand by Sykes. Given that I was not in the position to ‘quibble’ this discrepancy at my doorstep, as I was in much need of a replacement, I was more than willing to accept the door provided by Sykes.
The work was completed and I was happy with the end result, even though I was disappointed not being able to receive my first choice.
Some weeks went by and I then received a phone call ‘out of the blue’ from Sykes on the 8th May 2009 stating they have now ‘got’ my initial choice of door. They asked if I still wanted the Hanbury One and would I like for them to come to my home and replace the ‘panel’ of the Aston Three with the Hanbury One house number. I was at that time inclined to say ‘yes’ and I was very pleased and accepted the offer, as this was my first choice. It was agreed that Sykes would come to my home on the 12th May 2009 to replace the ‘panel’.
However, unfortunately, the replacement of the Aston Three panel with the ‘Hanbury One house number panel has not gone according to plan.
These are the discrepancies as follows:
1. The Hanbury One house number door panel is made of a ‘see through’ translucent plastic material. Not upvc.
2. The door knocker and letterbox which was replaced is made of gold material, this does not ‘match’ the white lever pad handle and does not keep to the original ‘white’ scheme which is already in place on my original upvc door frame
3 The reason the contractors could not ‘change over’ my white doorknocker and letterbox because they were the wrong size, therefore they could not be fitted onto the new panel. Also, to my astonishment, they did not carry the correct sized replacements on their works van.
Needless to say, I was left with an ‘odd’ looking external door.
I am hoping that you will agree with me that the above result is totally unacceptable.
In view of these discrepancies, I would like to put an end to this matter and make a last request to have these discrepancies remedied by reverting back to the Aston Three with my white fittings and frosted glass.
I am now glad to say since writing this letter, the rep has come round to my house and seen the dodgy panel left by the contractors, he was not impressed. He will be making sure they will be coming back to put my old panel back......woop woop
