  • Urgent: Housing Association Rip Off

    Hi all,

My dad lives in a housing association flat. He received a notification his service charge is going up, but the result of the increase means the total cost of rent and service charge will go from £403 per month to £821.

He simply can’t afford this and although he has queried it, they have written to him confirming.

His first DD will come out on the 1st April and although I have advised him to go the CAB, he’s stubborn and stupid enough to pay it and starve himself to fund it.

I have attached the breakdown, but there was an official letter addressed to my dad confirming the same along with the direct debit schedule starting 01/04.

How do I go about sorting this? Surely it can’t be right?

The breakdown of current and future charges don't stack up. The normal increase in
April would be due to inflation, so I don't know how they've come to the increased figure
(I know there's a breakdown). It could be that the charges in previous years were 'incorrect'.

What you need to do is lodge a formal complaint in writing with the Housing Association.
Then you can complain to the Housing Ombudsman if you are still 'unhappy'.

The Housing Association will have their complaints procedure on their website.
