  • Neighbour, temp scaffolding corrugated roof dumping rain water on butterfly roof

    Dear All,

    Your advice please.

    1. Situation.
    Neighbour informed effective Thu morning 0700 {last week} he will do work on his roof. {This is new tangent to imminent rear extension soon to start, in process to get party wall agreement solved}
    We met in person Thu 1800.
    I ask please ensure you temporary scaffolding will not shed water on our butterfly roof { “V” shaped roof super prone to flooding}
    => NB, at this time zero roof was installed.

    Neighbour agree this is reasonable, assure me he will instruct builders when installing roof so it will NOT dump water on my V shaped roof.

    The very next day, Fri afternoon, the builders start installing the roof on scaffolding, this roof will 100% dump all his water onto my V shaped roof.
    Neighbour send me an email at +- 13H00 saying the builders told them they never had such a request in 35 years. The structure is temporary, it should be gone in 14 days. [I do not believe this at all, I guess this will be here +-3 months or more]

    It rained yesterday, Sunday, the +- 17mm of rain dumped all on my roof, my gutters overflow and wet walls below.

    My questions,
    a. how if possible can I ask he urgently change the temporary scaffold so his rain water will not flood my V shaped roof.
    b. What would you do in my position? Would you pursue this, it is not just matter of being correct here, there is always some political cost.
    => I do not seek money or repairs, I want to prevent his water damaging my building.

    Just asking for his word will not help, the person`s word is not his bond.

    Thank you.
