Hi there. We have a residential property in the Highlands and for reasons best known to the developers, our neighbour's water pipe runs under our garden. The neighbour's stop valve is under the pavement on one side of the property, the pipe then runs for 30m under our garden and exits under the boundary shared between the two properties. The pipe has burst three times and each time we have given access for it's repair. The first time we had to pay for it because our neighbour refused and we didn't want to see the contractor out of pocket, the second time it caused a huge row, this time the water company said they had to start immediately, that they didn't need our permission but would do the work free of charge (no reason given). My wife is a very keen gardener and we have also just spent a large sum of money replacing our driveway; we would dearly love to avoid this upheaval repeatedly in the future. Can we insist that the pipe is moved to run under the road? If not are we entitled to any compensation? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Scooter11
Welcome to LB
Lodge a formal complaint with the water company, follow the complaints procedure on their website.
Explain what's happened, water leak, not your responsibility, you paid when you shouldn't have,
you want the monies refunded. Happened again, inconvenience, your resolution, under road.
But you could contact CCW, get some input. But rightfully you have a grievance, it sounds
like they should have asked you to pay. The free works tells you that.
