  • ADU Violation

    Hi

I have reached out to the City Manager and City Attorney in my city regarding a violation going on my street. Unfortunately, the City Manager has not reached out to me. I emailed him and have gone down to his office and spoken with his Administrative Secretary as well. It has been over a year now and I go down there to check in about every 2 - 3 months with the same response that "He will set an appointment to speak with you if that is what he wants to do". Obviously, he must not want to speak with me since it has been over a year now.

Likewise, when the initial violation occurred I spoke with the Planning Department and they went out to investigate and let the owner know that he was in violation. The owner has completely ignored them and then they put the situation in the hands of the City Attorney.

The City Attorney did give me a call and said that it was a "Complicated Issue that he does not want to explain". I don't know what I am supposed to do with that response, but nobody has done anything about the violation. Nor has anyone explained why this continues to go on without any action being taken.

I would like to request a formal written response from the City Manager/City Attorney/City Council, but not sure how to do that. Do you have any guidance?

Sounds like you are in the USA. This is a UK website advising mainly on UK law and practice. I recommend you find a US advice site and re-post your question there as it is unlikely there are members here with knowledge of US procedures.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
