  • Lodger room rental

Hi is it correct that If you're renting out a room in your primary residence to a lodger, you are not legally obligated to check their identification or immigration status under the Right to Rent scheme in wales UK?

A quick search brings up gov.uk, Shelter, and many letting advice sites which all say Right to Rent checks must be carried out on Lodgers as well as tenants. eg

    https://england.shelter.org.uk/housi...gration_checks

These sites refer to England though but you can probably find the equivalent for Wales online.

UPDATE Just found this gov.uk page which says check not required in Wales

    https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-rent

I keep getting mixed statements from the search engines on the internet, but most say for lodger sublet not required, was hoping a solicitor would be on here.

Sorry I don't have the qualifications to satisfy you but I think you can rely on the official government guidance on gov.uk.
