  • Floor rotting away in log cabin

We purchased a large log cabin from a reputable company. We paid nearly £20,000 for this. The company supplied and fitted it. All timbers we were told were treated. We have had it for nearly 6 years and the floor is rotting out. My foot nearly went through the floor on one room. It was only that we have rubber fitted carpets throughout that save my foot from being twisted or worse. We now find the floor is rotting in another room. It’s going to be a complete nightmare to take everything out and replace the floor. It’s my husbands workroom / man cave. I’m worried it’s going to start rotting the walls. What can we do ? I have contacted the company but they have ignored me ? I’m so upset. We paid for this out of our savings so my husband had somewhere to complete his hobby work in his retirement.

    Was there a guarantee?

I have to ask this, but could sealing in the wooden floor by covering it with rubber carpet have contributed to the rot? Were there any instructions from the company that fitted it about not coving it over with a waterproof covering?

And what was the estimated life of the floor according to the company that sold it to you?

Have you checked that the company is still trading? If they will not respond your option would be sue them in the county court for the cost of repairing the floor, although you would need to obtain independent expert evidence about the condition of the floor and estimates for its repair.
