  • Purchasing House and Legal Contract to add partner later

I want to buy a property outright. Partner will be able to contribute 50% on sale of his house. It might take a while for a sale, as it is likely to be on the market for a while. Can I get a contract drawn up which commits him to pay his share of the house? In return for his share I will then add his name to the deeds. I wouldn’t be buying the property without the knowledge he would be tying himself into it further down the line. I want some legal protection that he will be required to pay me 50% before making this step.

I can see no reason why this should not be possible. You should probably at the same time agree the terms on which you will jointly own the property.
