  • Landlord has put house up for sale without informing me - where do I stand?

    Hi there

I have discovered that my landlord has put the house up for sale without informing me. The advert says there are tenants in situ however I am concerned the new owner could immediately begin eviction proceedings? I am due to come out of the initial 6 month contract with the landlord soon and they have asked me to go onto a rolling month to month payment - basically sending them the money each month but presumably without contract. I am unsure what will happen or who will have control over the deposit paid prior (which I believe was held by the tenancy deposit scheme).

    Where do I stand?

    TIA

You are on an Assured Shorthold contract for six months. Your landlord can bring the tenancy to an end at any point from (and including) the six month term, by giving you two months' notice expiring on a rent day. Until that date, your tenancy continues on a month to month basis.
The deposit stays where it is until the tenancy is determined.

And yes the new owner could begin proceedings to evict you as soon as they own the property (sorry).
