  • Landlord for potential rental wants to see how tenants currently live

Hi, anyone out there come across this following request from a Landlord?

My son and daughter-in-law both professional working people are having to relocate from up north to our town to be closer to London, for ease of access, train travel etc.

They rang a letting agent to enquire about a property, 3 bed semi on a small estate, good area, arranged a viewing but once application forms were filled out, prior to viewing they were informed they would not be accepted as the Landlord is strict and wants to view where they are currently living (2 and a half hrs drive away) which is of course not going to happen, The Landlord couldn't find their current rental property on google, no because due to high interest their property was taken down from letting site, you can still find the property if you look. They have an excellent history of renting properties, credit etc etc.

Is this normal for a Landlord to make such a request? The Letting agents were of little help, find it quite bizarre myself Thankyou

I have rentals and have never made such a request. Usually satisfied with reference and bank statements. It’s possible that he’s been stung in the past so is being extra cautious, although it does seem a bit extreme.
