I am building a house that needs a Private Water Supply (PWS).
The planning permission contains a condition that the PWS provides sufficient quantity for the needs of the occupants.
The actual quantity of water that the system must be able to supply is not specified in the legislation covering PWSs.
The local authority Environmental Health dept state that 200L/day/person is required, a figure taken from the water regulator's (Scotland) non-statutory technical guidance document. 200L is the Scotland average.
For various reasons (incl costs, no bath present, sustainability, space taken by 2500L storage tank) I want to use a figure 160L/day/person, which is slightly higher than the average use in England.
My predicted use for the house is 85L/person/day. There is no bath and no garden or car or dog to hose down.
The house is new so has to have water-saving fittings on all devices using water.
Can they insist on the 200L/day figure? They say they apply this to all such developments, regardless of context.
