Our garage roof and garage contents have been ruined by brambles and lack of maintenance from the neighbouring garages owner.
We own a garage in a separate block away from our house. The garage is part of a block of 3, we own the end one and our garage wall forms part of the garden wall of the problem property.
Over the years we have regularly cleared brambles from the areas we can reach, treated and looked after the wooden parts of the garage, but the brambles grow from the problem garden and the owner of the property, despite numerous requests has never done anything to them.
The brambles have now grown into our garage roof, causing severe damage, ripping the felt which has caused leaks and now rot. The adjoining garage is owned by the problem property and that roof is completely rotten, likely to collapse at any time and will take our garage roof with it.
Ideally we would like to replace our garage roof, but we can't because A. The bramble problem. B. The garages are built in such a way that the roofs connect and a single roof cannot be replaced individually C. The problem house owns the adjoining garage.
The owner of the problem property died a couple of years ago and the house has been empty and unoccupied ever since. We tried putting notes in the door, even though people had been seen at the property, they didn't answer the door or respond to anyones notes.
It is believed that the son now owns the house but he lives in Australia. Other neighbouring properties are equally keen to discuss bramble problems with him, some have tried the address in Australia they were given by the council, but no one has had any response.
I have spoken to my local council and they say they can only help with adjoining property problems ?
So,
1 Does anyone know if the council are correct ? As we do actually own property that adjoins his, the garden wall .
2 I know I can get the new owner details from either other owners of properties affected or the land registry, but if they have had no response, this is looking like a lost cause.
Any ideas?
