Please can you help my brother in law left his partner in January and they put there house up for sale. He signed the agreement of sale paperwork on Sunday and that evening he committed suicide we are all deverstated. His ex has been ringging and coming on to the family saying horrible things the house is due to complete next week what will happen to his share of the profits of the house will his ex get the whole amount they where never married or will his mother be able to claim it. Unfortunatly he didnt have a will. He was living at his mother's at the time of death. The profit is around 40k so 20k each. Would be so great full if you could advise us of where we stand please

It depends on how the house was held. Tenants in common or joint tenants. Joint tenants then it all reverts to the ex, tenants in common then his share is part of his estate to be distributed
