I own a first floor flat leasehold flat. My exterior stairs/firescape needs replacing. My lease says l am liable for the upkeep and maintenance of the stairs which l have done for the last 10 yrs. However, they now need replacing. Is my freehold landlord liable for half of the replacement costs? The outdoor stairs/firescape is sole purpose use for my first floor flat only. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Barry

Here's some information, no doubt more advice will follow. The stairs are an escape route in case of fire (Health & Safety) so need to be replaced as soon a possible. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housi...es_for_repairs

Upkeep and maintenance during it's working life is not the same as replacement at the end of it. I would give your lease agreement a very close scrutiny.
