  • Does My Neighbour Have the Right to Tear Down Posters from my property?

    Hello Community,

    My first post here.

Today I put a Black Lives Matter poster on my garden gate to commorate the murder of George Floyd, and to support the BLM movement.

My neighbour waited until I was out and tore down the poster, as I believe she is anti-BLM.

I am located in East London, SE22

The question is does she have the right to rip down my poster which is on my property?

Just in case you're wondering how I know it was my neighbour, the answer is I don't know for sure, but I'm 99% sure.

My guess is that she doesn't have the right to tear the poster, but I don't know for sure.

Also, if it is illegal, is the situation considered a Civil or Criminal matter?

    Thanks

    NO, she doesn't

I would put the poster back up and see if you can catch at it, mobile phone footage or cctv if you got it.

You could always put the poster inside your windows !

Police won't be interested, unless their breach of the peace/ criminal damage to your property.

Civil case, if that was possible is just going to costs "loads of money"

No one would have the right to remove the notice, and if it was damaged whilst it was being removed the offence would be one of criminal damage and also the tort of trespass,

However I don't see where you are going with this, as the matter will be seen as very minor (although you might find it disrespectful and upsetting) and you have no proof of the offender.

And by the way, did you make enquiries to see if planning permission was required for your poster?
