A few weeks ago I was caught shoplifting a large amount of goods from Primark (~£150 worth). I know this is ridiculous but I have certainly learnt my lesson now. I've read a lot of threads on this issue saying not to pay the company but I am concerned that due to the high value of the items the case will be taken far more seriously and I will be chased down?

Re: Primark shoplifting
Hi and welcome.
Presumably as you were caught by security(?) the goods were all recovered in a saleable condition.
Any police involvement?
£150 is not particularly high value, and is not going to make them fall upon you like a ton of bricks.
I can see no reason to change the advice from IGNORE.
Primark have lost nothing and have no cause to initiate court action.
RLP are just vigilantees dressing themselves in psuedo legal jargon to frighten people into paying them money.
Just ignore them and their begging letters.

No the police were not involved at all and all of the goods were taken back.
I am happy to ignore them as long as I will not have debt collectors knocking at my mum's house

Re: Primark shoplifting
RLP cannot take you to court, neither can a dca! Should be safe to ignore (if you want to email it to me and I'll redact/post up for des8 to look at feel free)Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.
It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

What should I do?
It is only a request for you to pay them a sum of money.
It is not a fine.
Private companies cannot issue fines.
In the uk we have justice systems which are implemented by the courts, not private companies acting as judge and jury.
RLP will send you a number of these letters, and you may ignore them all (even if they write in big scary red letters).
The only correspondence never to ignore is from the courts, and you won't receive any regarding this matter
