    I think you should bill the third party for car hire.
    Car hire is necessary because of their negligence in causing the original incident
    Whilst you have to act to minimise your loss, the time delay is not your fault.
    If the third party wishes they can name your insurers as a co defendant should you eventually take the matter to court.

    Might get contrary views from others!
