Hi Guys,
I'm really worried about this over payment of tax credit. I was married & seperated back in May 2004 (Now divorced last year in April). My 6 year old son stayed with my ex as he did not want to move out with me. My ex claimed a joint tax credit & the money has been paid into his bank account. Now Inland Revenue is sending me letters to my previous UK address demanding the over payment back(My friend has received the letter as I used to share the apartment with him) & I have left the country back in May last year I work & live in UAE. I havent taken a penny from this tax credit & they should be chasing my ex who lives in UK.
I have a very good credit history & dont owe a penny to anyone. I'm worried this may cause a black mark on my credit history. I dont want to pay this back because they havent paid me this money but to my ex after my seperation. After going through divorce case, child custody for over 16months now I'm trying to build up my future little by little. My child hates me & staying with his father. I really dont need this hassle. Someone please advice what I should do? Inland Revenue doesnt know that I have left the country long time ago.
Rachel
