  • its about a car that went in for repair

Right here's one to ponder over, A few years ago a friend had 2 Range Rovers One was stolen and then used in a ram raid, when she got it back, it was pretty well damaged, but it had a good working engine. then she bought another one with a good body but the engine had ceased up, she found in a car magazine a guy, who said he could do a decent rebuild from them he gave her a price came and took both cars about 3 months later her phoned her and told her that his garage had been broken into and his contents tools, equipment and such had been stolen, and the rebuild would be a lot longer than he had said,
As she was very ill at the time she agreed to let him sort himself out and then get back to her.
After 6 months she made contact with him again he said he was still trying to replace his equipment, but promised a car soon, I don't know how she found out but someone saw his mother driving one of the cars, she tried to contact him but no luck.

Here its gets a bit vague the friend in question has been extremely ill with ME and just cant remember which magazine she found him in although she thinks she knows where the cars went, and she cant remember his number, We have hunted high and low to find the documents she knows at least the first car (stolen one) is or was registered in her name and she is not sure about the other one, she also cant remember the registration numbers, for a couple of years she received tax disc reminders so one or both were being taxed, after that nothing, she is a bit reluctant to involve the police just in case its just lost numbers. as I say it has been a long time, would she be able to make a claim against this chap, is there any advice as to which route she can go down, thank you

Before any thing can be done, you need to obtain the registration number of at least one of the vehicles.
Whilst the numbers have been forgotten & documentation lost, a record will exist on police records of the ram raid.
If the case made the local papers they may have a record of the number/photo of vehicle after the raid.

But even if the vehicles are traced, and the mechanic found, without any documentation and with a faulty memory it is going to be difficult to prove anything.
Has your friend made a full recovery from ME/CFS?
I only ask because the task being set, tracing cars, mechanic and then probably court, is likely to be extremely stressful.
I am sure you are aware that many believe stress to be a cause or aggravating cause of ME/CFS and in view of the uncertainty of being successful in this mission is it wise for your friend to pursue this matter?
