  • Sending a SAR to the Halifax

Hello, I wish to get a SAR request sent off to the Halifax, I have located a template letter for this, can anyone advise what address I would post it to & who would I address it too as im sending a postal order..who would I make the £10 payable too or leave it blank?
Finally is it wise to sign the SAR or just print my name?
Really need to get this posted quick so any advice would be great.

Re: Sending a SAR to the Halifax

Hi carts69, & welcome to Legal Beagles.

Write to us at Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds, LS1 1WU.
    http://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/contactushome.asp

If it were me, I would make the PO out to 'Halifax', & state on it that it is to only be used as payment for a DPA Subject Access
    Request.

Usually it it wise just to print your name, or use an anti-tamper device to stop your signature being 'lifted'.

& get proof of postage (minimum, a free certificate of postage; recorded delivery would be better.)

Thanks for that, so where on the PO do I write "only be used as payment for a DPA Subject Access
Request". also... sending it to that address, will it reach the correct department, & do I need to address it to a certain person/department?

I've always left my POs blank.

SARs are addressed to The Data Controller. They will know which department to send it to.

It's probably best just to sign digitally using a computer font rather than your real signature. Some companies may come back demanding a signature, in which case you could sign on a tamper-proof strip.

One last question... Can I still apply for a SAR even though I no longer have an account with Halifax or even an account number, also regarding address, do I need to state my previous address anywhere in the SAR (when the default happened)?
