    Re: Law Degree

As "Eloise01" was not employed as any variety of lawyer, it is extremely doubtful that her employers (Leeds City Council) could be held liable for any bad advice she might have given, even if that advice had been given during her working hours.

Eloise made sure she could not be held accountable pretending to be a 'Barrister' as she clearly and absolutely stated she was 'retired from practice' (quite what practice she meant is now debatable). She refused to say where she 'practiced' from etc etc...so in essence eejits like myself took her at face value (and I know I wasn't the only one,,yet oddly,I never felt comfortable enough to give her my phone numbers?)

I knew about CILEX (and when they were call ILEX, that is, before they received their charter) when I wad a policeman, Cyn, but I only found out about the existence of the Institute of Paralegals in the last 18 months. Life is one big learning curve. Some knowledge we acquire through our own efforts and some we acquire through others, like on LB.

No I'm sure you're right. That doesn't mean she could not be held liable through her website etc...

I take Inca's point about retirement, but with barristers they can dip in and out of retirement, there is no compulsory retirement age I don't think. Many carry on with some private practice even when retired. How much weight a disclaimer would have had I don't know. Apparently most of the disclaimers people have on their signatures here wouldn't hold any water legally (only what I've read, not fact).

Anyway, I'll rephrase to 'A not so good recent example here recently .............'
