  • Last will and Testament

Can anyone please advise on the following:
We currently live in Greece where we purchased land and built a property. We also own a property in the Uk and prior to leaving the uk in 2006 we did our last will and Testament which only included the property in the Uk, we were advised that the Uk will could not include the property in Greece. We currently do not have a will that is for the Greek property as we believe that you can only have one last will and testament.

Can we add the Greek property to our Uk will or do we need to do another will in Greece to cover the Greek property?

Also I have a daughter in my previous name who is 25 and I have remarried so my surname is different to my daughter. In the Uk this is not a problem but under Greek law we are not sure. Please advise if we need to have two wills one in the Uk and one in Greece. many thanks Normandtez

This needs specialist advice. Go and see a solicitor specialising in Wills and Probate. There are solicitors who specialise in the handling of overseas property. They may also be able to advise.

What about the lawyer who handled your initial purchase? Presumably you had someone at the Greek end of things.

Many thanks, we checked with the Uk Lawyer he said The Greek property was not covered in the Uk, my main question is can you have 2 last will and testaments? I can do a separate one in Greece which covers my Greek property but not sure I need 2? Greek Lawyers only deal with the purchase of the land we built our property on then an Architect oversees the build and a Notary writes up the legal Contract with a Greek Lawyer and an interpreter present, its very different here.

An enquiry to your original Greek lawyer is the way to go. Even if he doesn't know, he should certainly be able to tell you who does.
