Do you have a useful reply of your own or did you join today just to say that

        Re: Failure of Solicitor

Well there has been a reply from the firm in question which I have yet to see. It sounds though like a total apology , the reason being IT failure . They have offered to discuss the case free of charge with my friend.
I have no idea what his intentions are at this point

Sounds like good news to me! :clap2:

At the very least, a step in the right direction! :thumb:

            Re: Failure of Solicitor

I know we live in a 'technological' world (even my OH has an IPad)......but what happened to the good old 'Diary'...where one wrote ones appointments in pen....? New doesn't mean better does it?

Finally seen the letter from the senior partner and the partner who's cock up it was.
Basically he forgot to put it in the diary, no IT problem, just didn't get written down anywhere.
Tried to say the court should have let my friend phone but too late to suggest that now.

As for appeal, as I suspected the sentence was bang on middle guidelines and in all likelyhood even on a good day the ban would have only been a month or two less so it's not worth it. I have to agree

An all too common excuse nowadays, to blame it all on technology, when it was just plain human error.

So in this case, it looks like no real damage was done, however, it really is inexcusable that solicitors should make such mistakes which, in some cases, could have much more serious consequences, a bit like a pilot forgetting to push down the landing gear before touching down! :scared:

Lets be honest,,he got off lightly really..all drink./drug drivers do. I'm all for a zero tolerance law.
That doesn't distract from the shoddy behaviour of the solicitor,he was booked and should have rocked up.

His sentence was one that according to the law and guidelines was appropriate. Neither light or harsh but consistant. Peoples thoughts on the criminal justice system however and the way it works are a completely different question

I leave the task of passing judgment to the courts, that's what they're there for, it's their job.

Solicitors also have a job to do and they should do it properly, not turning up without a valid reason is inexcusable, as would be a doctor not turning up for surgery, even if the patient's life wasn't endangered.
