Around about. Going to see it (again) performed at the Met in New York in the spring.

Slight aside - The "bridal entrance" at my wedding was "Ride of the Valkyrie". Slightly disappointing that nobody looked very surprised!

Actually have a question for you Eloise - are you saying that every party or wedding band playing covers at functions around the country (the world) is infringing copyright? Serious question?

thanks for all your help, I think we'll go for the safe option and just use the bands own music (after asking their permission) and besides it'll be on topic to the rally and the weekend

if they are playing copyrighted music and do not have permission and have not paid up - yes actually. I think I am right in saying that music copyright is now 70 years in the EU. But you are assuming that they haven't - I would bet that most of them will have. They may not be original artists, but for many of them this will be their livelihood or a substantial part of their income, and they won't risk that. Most people are law-abiding, even if they don't see the need for the law.

Googled this lot of results may be worth the OP reading thosel music from the bands e is using is not copyright that he tries to get a band or bands to play some original stuff for the recording and leaves out any copyrighted material could act as a showcase for new music?

They are now! What a piece to walk in to. I have played the organ for -gosh - literally hundreds of weddings, and attended a few, but never heard that as an entrance piece. I played the other Wagner one quite a few times though. lol

sorry this is seriously off swifty's thread (sorry Swifty)- but no Eloise - most bands just play covers live and don't worry about it - I don't suppose it occurs to them that it might be illegal - I have certainly played in bands without this ever being raised or a worry and as stated am a freak about copyright - need to know the answer!

I would have to ask my brother the exact details, because I am now straying off my comfort zone, but I think that, assuming you buy the music (sheet music) then I think this includes some performance rights. My son plays in a very popular (locally) band,,he is the drummer (hence my house looks like a recording studio from the garden!!) and my FIL was a musician/dj on a radio station. I know the band have to get all sorts of permissions etc and FIL was forever checking up that they were fully covered as Eloise says copyright law etc is a minefield.

(btw,,my funeral songs are........Ding Dong the Witch is dead.........and Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye!! lol (OH refuses to let me have a white glove, waving, popping out of the curtains as my box disappears)

Great choices. I'd ignore the OH - just come back as a poltergeist and you can do what you want!
