Police have got car

Could someone possibly give me some advice.

A friend of mine has got himself into a bit of a mess.
He offered a lift to someone who had had his car stolen, they found out where the car was and went to collect it.The person whose car it was got into a fight with the person who had stolen it and it resulted in the police being called.
My friend was arrested but was not involved in the fight as he stayed in his car all the time. The police have this on cctv.

They have impounded my friends car and say they are going to keep it until the 6th of April. He is not very happy with this but the main thing which is worrying him is that there is a machine in the boot which he needs for his work, even though the police say he can have this back he cannot get it until the arresting officer is at the compound with him and he will just say he is too busy to help out

It does not make ant sense to me why the police have impounded your friends car?

Especially, if he was not directly involved in the fight and how did your friends friend know where his car was?

Why did he not go to the police and tell them where the car was if he knew this then the police would have dealt with it.

Why did your friend not take out of his car any personal belongings before he handed it over to the police?

I know this sounds so confusing. The person whose car was stolen was told where the car was, when he went round he was confronted by the person that stole it. The police were called and my friend was arrested and they took his car. I know they should of the police handle this, but it is too late now.
The thing is my friend was not involved but is being charged with being an accessory and they have said they will not give him his car back

It seems to me that if someone told him where the car was, it was taken by someone he knew. Now to me from what you have said seems that the other person who suposidly stole the car was laying in wait for him to turn up like an ambush.

There has to be more to this story than meets the eye as nothing from what you have said really makes sense?

Was anyone hurt?

What has happened with the stolen car, was that taken by police as well?

Your friend is being charged as an accessory so the police must think he was involved in some way?

Did you friends, friend owe the other guy money and that is why he stole the car?

Whose car do the police have?
Your friends car, or the 'stolen'car they went to collect.
was the 'stolen' car reported to the police prior to the incident
was the 'stolen' car taxed & insured?
was the person who your friend took to collect the 'stolen' car the registered keeper of the car.

My friend has been told there are no charges against him. He has now collected his vehicle from the police

I was going to mention it's on CCTV then they have nothing on him, and shouldn't even take his car.
