Can I give a few carers at a nursing home caring for a relative a small cash gift at Christmas as just a small token of appreciation from all the family - or will they get into trouble

Ask them! Or ask the manager of the home.

There' s no general law about it but their employer may have rules about whether they can accept gifts.

Apparently cash gifts are not allowed to be given to carers - according to CQC regulations - even if classed as small amounts - vouchers can be accepted -

Have you asked the Nursing Home itself? They will almost certainly have a staff policy on gifts and gratuities setting out what staff can accept and what they are required to report.
