  • Letter from the Office for National Statistics about a survey

    Hi Everyone

I would be very grateful indeed for some advice about a letter I have received from the Office for National Statistics asking me to complete a survey.

I think my address has been randomly selected for this.

You can see a copy of the letter with my personal details redacted at the following link:

Has anyone here received a letter like this?

I have read on the ONS website that the survey is voluntary for residential people (which I am) but compulsory for businesses if they are selected.

As you can see, the letter states that if I do not complete the survey by the 27th of November, an ONS agent may visit me about the survey.

Before deciding whether or not to take part in the survey, I have done some research on the Internet about it and I have found some deeply disturbing reports about the ONS on the Trustpilot website. The following three issues mentioned in the Trustpilot reports concern me the most:

    1. ONS agents have harassed and bullied members of public on their doorsteps to get them to complete the survey.
    2. The questions are very intrusive and violating.
    3. Once people have completed one survey, they have then been asked for more information or have been asked to complete more surveys.

You can see these reports at the following link:

    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.ons.gov.uk

After reading the Trustpilot reports, I have decided that I do not want to take part in the survey but I do not want any ONS agents knocking on my door either.

Is there any way I can get off the ONS randomly selected address list?

What is my best course of action in order to deal with this situation?

    Thank you very much.

    Kind regards

    Tim
