  • renting to my Sister and housing benefit

Hope this is in the right place.

Hi i am a landlord with a number of properties and one has become vacant.
Could i rent my property to my Sister and her 2 week old baby She would need to claim housing benefit to afford the rent?
If so what is the best way to approach this?
    TIA

Basically you will need to treat the situation as if it was a normal commercial arrangement
e.g. provide a proper written agreement, charge a market rent, provide gas safety certificate etc etc

Your sister can then apply for HB, but the council might ask for more proof.

    Good luck
