  • Bin collectors damaged car

    Hi,

I noticed a bump on the passenger door of my car, right next to our bins. After I went over the doorcam video it seems like the bin collectors were a bit heavy handed rolling out the bins and one can see how the edge bumps against the car. I believe the council has subcontracted Veolia to collect the bins so my question is who should I contact in this matter and who is ultimately liable for this damage?

    Hi AEKEI

    Welcome to LB

You need to report it to your insurance company and let them deal with it.
Keep the incident evidence safe. Although not your fault, the insurance company
will deal with it the way they deem fit - the path of least resistance.

Thanks, unfortunately my deductible is probably larger than the cost of fixing this or do you think they will try to recoup all cost? I reckon its probably 2-300 pound job where the excess is double that.

I would contact the council directly - speak to your local councillor first perhaps as they are there to help in situations like this

So it's not minor damage. All council's have Public Liability Insurance, Google your Council website add the words, Public Liability Insurance, should bring up a webpage with a claim form. Provide as much evidence as you can, make a claim. But you also need to inform your insurance company of your claim against the Council.

Most council websites have a section telling you what to do if you have a claim against the council.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
