  • Finding a solicitor

    Hi,

Any suggestions about how one finds a solicitor suited to a particular issue? And more importantly one with a good reputation? Or a barrister. Personal recommendation doesn't work very well since most people don't ever need legal help, particularly if the case/problem is not run of the mill. I've tried the find a lawyer on this site but it just seems like everyone one does civil litigation so that doesn't tell me if they have succeeded in similar cases. And if I look for fraud lawyers I seem to find just ones that defend rather than prosecute civil fraud.

    Thanks

    Have you tried:

    The Legal 500 - https://www.legal500.com/

    Chambers guide - https://chambers.com/legal-guide/uk-1
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

      Thanks for the suggestions.

I wonder too how to categorise/search for the area of law I'm interested in? The case would be civil fraud against a local authority so I think the category is "litigation" but that seems a very broad category so is there anyway to refine that to find solicitors with relevant experience? Seems to me that searching for "litigation" would near enough return every firm of solicitors, most with no experience of case against a local authority. Searches I've done with "fraud" usually find solicitors who defend against criminal or civil fraud cases whereas I'm looking for those who prosecute these.

      TIA

maybe you should not focus your search so narrowly. You might try "financial litigation" or "commercial litigation".
