  • Image copyright issue on website - picrights.com

    Hi all

I have a request relating to image/copyright law - I would be grateful for any advice.

I have just received an email from 'picrights.com' asking me to pay £750 for a photo i used of an athlete I worked with - on my physio website. They say they are acting on behalf of reuters media.

    - I obviously should have not used it - i did put it in there when i made the website but didn't change it to a non copyrighted pic like i intended!

So would be grateful for your opinion/advice...

    1. Is picrights.com a legit company? I have seen some people online just saying ignore them….some of their approach of just emailing out of the blue does smell a bit of a scam.

    2. The athlete is a friend of mine- and they know i used the image- however i am wondering if they would have any control or authority over the use of his image or would reuters fully own this image ( I was thinking i could ask him if i needed support if this would help me in this instance)

    3. If there is no way around it - is there any way of working out what i should really owe - compared to 750.... which seems to be a very high number picked out of thin air

Hope this all makes sense - grateful for any advice - the fact I am unsure if the company is legit makes it hard to consider paying up and how much. I would feel more comfortable dealing with reuters directly if this really is a legitimate issue.

    Thank you in advance
