Can I please ask for some advice regarding my neighbour next door.

    It started off last year.

Her daughter and son in law moved in back in November last year.

We've had nothing but problems since.

We've experienced problems with parking, noise, banging on the party wall at all times of the day and night (that appears to have now stopped), selling stuff from the property, and the main gripe is we can smell cannabis being smoked regularly.

I approached the Council Tax department, and was told that she had not declared that they had moved in with her and they would send a letter out to her.

I don't know the outcome of this as the Council won't tell me even though I'm the complainant.

The other thing is she has also failed to inform Electrol register as well.

Recently we were all sent our yearly Electrol forms, the neighbour filled her's in falsely, claimed she was still living alone.

I informed Electrol services recently, they sent her another form end of last week, so far the neighbour has failed to return the forms back.

Both my husband and I are very alarmed as to why our neighbour appears to not want her daughter and son in law registered at her address.

We understand the son in law is an American national, we are concerned he might be here illegally and might not have a valid full visa, this could be 1 reason why they are not registered as living there.

We are at a loss what to do about the situation, they have been living here for 10 months unregistered, and have caused nothing but trouble.

Until they appeared on the scene, we had a good relationship with our neighbour, but since they have arrived she stopped speaking to us.

Because the Council seem to want to do very little about the situation, and the fact remains they are unregistered at this address, any advice please?

    Thank you.

I don't know why them being unregistered is any of your business. If your business is with their anti-social behaviour, check the Citizens Advice Bureau. There are steps you can take, if the council (or your landlord) is unresponsive including escalating the issue to the Housing or Local Government and Social care Ombudsman.

This is just based on a quick Google. I'm sure there will be others on here who would probably be able to provide more expert advice.

I just had to comment, because I know from experience, reporting a neighbour to the authorities about not being registered, when the real issue you have with them is anti-social behaviour, doesn't end well. You're setting yourself up for a vindictive tit-for-tat cycle if they find out its you.

How do you know they are not on Electrol roll you cannot you can opt to be on edited or unedited one available for public one n other not but still registered imo most opt to be private so no way of you knowing! If you are saying not registered for rates council tax again you have knowing if you are saying ...you are above GDRP
So you do not like them but if genuine concerns contact environmental health re rubbish overcrowding noise
If you are simply annoyed because you cannot see who lives there .. we well you could try a land registry search to see the one person or more who accept s responsibility for property on land .. not same as Electrol roll council tax or necessarily mortgage

but no-one has to be on public on Electrol roll can opt private so please clarify is it you don't know them as appears or have genuine safety fears??? Ps legally and data protection you do not have to get an Electrol roll posted and they would not tell you third party any outcome or indeed anything so what exactly are you on about??
Noise rubbish contact environmental health and your council re noise pollution selling without a license trading standards and council
Whether Electrol roll and council tax gave you information re neighbors contact ico if they giving and breeching data protection then they would give your personal details which I am sure you would be deplored about

So saying it is noise rubbish amount of people environmental health etc
Please update did Electrol roll really tell you whether registered or not council tax etc major ico breech do let us all know x

I think you are picking on petty things such as Council tax and Electoral Register.

As an American citizen and if he is married to a UK citizen, he would have rights to live in the UK. It could be the other way, the daughter with UK citizenship, going to live in the US on the basis of her husbands US citizenship. It is a matter of paperwork, those rights go both way.

They may have good reason not to be on the electoral register, they may be long term guests on holiday. As a US citizen, he may or may not have rights to vote.

Nothing wrong with selling stuff from their property. People can be running a home on-line business or selling stuff on eBay. You may not like it, but it is legal. Parking is also legal, unless they are parking on your private property.

You need to focus on real ASB issues. There is little protection for victims of ASB. Incidents of ASB are not logged or recorded against the person who committed them. So they carry on, with nothing to lose. When someone rents a place, a potential landlord cant check a prospective tenant's past conduct. At the moment, people are free to act as they wish.

You can contact your council over noise issues. They might write them a letter, but they will know it is you.
