I have a copyright puzzle I hope someone might be able to help with with. I published a Catcher in the Rye study guide on Amazon and used E. Michael Mitchell's 1951 cover art as the cover. The art I used is listed as a public domain stock photo on a number of sites. Wikipedia says you don't need to have permission to use it. People sell posters of that image all over the place (including Amazon). The other week, Amazon terminated my account and told me that Little Brown Publishing had made the complaint. They said that in order to have my account reinstated I need 'documentation' to prove I did nothing wrong in using the image. I have forwarded Amazon all the information I found but they just send me a robotic reply saying the documentation is 'insufficient'. I contacted artres.com (artresource) - who told me I can licence the image from them and that they have the rights to it. I sent this information to Amazon and it was still deemed 'insufficient'. I'm really confused.*
