  • Ladder left in garden

    Hi all,

I hope somebody can help. Two months ago I found a ladder had been left in my back garden across the lawn. It's not my ladder my neighbours have no idea who's ladder it is. It's a big ladder I would say it could extend to my roof. It's in very good condition.

My first thought was the window cleaner but he said it's not his.

I am now wanting rid of it. Where do I stand as people I speak to have conflicting views.

I have been informed that I cannot do anything with it really as I don't own it.

Ie. If I take it to the tip it could be classed as theft or criminal damage.

If I sell it or give it away it could be classed as theft.

I checked with the council and they said I couldn't report as dumped as it was on my land not public land.

So my question is where do I stand on removing it?

Put a note up saying you will dispose of it unless it’s claimed in the next two weeks. Then sell it. There’s demand for ladders in good nick. Keep the money for the owner of the ladder. You won’t be charged with theft.
