  • Custody timing 24 hours or more?!

    Hello,

I have a query around police custody timing. I have tried to read PACE however my non legal mind just gets confused by the wording.

It mentions "Relevant time" with regards to the amount of time and start point of the clock for being held in custody. I am trying to establish the correct start point for when you are transferred from one custody suite to another police force.

Example is Arrested at 09:10 in one police area. Held in custody (full biometrics etc taken) transferred at 0100 the next morning. Arrive at new custody area (different force area) 0200. Held then until 16:30.

Full time for this was approximately 31 hours. Although I have not got the custody records yet for exact timing.

I was under the belief that the 24 hours started as soon as i entered custody and was the relevant time, not the time i entered the force area in which i was interviewed. No extension was ever approved via inspector and the solicitor.

I really hope someone can help
