  • Stop Car Tax

Can I stop my car tax. It is supposedly for use,and repair, of roads. Most roads around here are reminiscent of the surface of the moon. I am paying car tax for nothing!

There is no such thing as car tax there never has been, there was road tax but that was withdrawn in 1937, I believe you are referring to VED (Vehicle Excise Duty) for which there is no stipulation where the revenue is spent other than in general taxation.
Sorry i'm just thinking out loud, it might be irrelevant, I am not employed in anyway in the legal profession, please ensure you research any advice I give before using it I have been known to be wrong on multiple occasions.

ok, I MEANT road tax, but we say 'taxing the car', not taxing the road! Anyway, to make it broader, how about stopping VED alltogether and putting it on oil and fuel. Too many people get away with not paying, just wondering if I should join them!!

If you are the registered keeper you will not now a days get away with not paying VED unless you declare SORN, in which case don't get caught on the road with that vehicle.
And whatever your argument is for replacing it by increasing the duty on fuel, there are contrary arguments.
This has been proposed so often in the past it has now become a boring idea

Since thisa post, I have been proscribed, via the Vets Agency, as a none tax payer as the car is also my mobility car. I hate to grab a new car from a Govt org when I already have one.

The greatest weakness in the argument for putting the tax on fuel: which already carries a lot of tax, is that with electric cars they dont directly use fuel and won't pay. As the proportion of electric cars increases the amount raised in fuel duty will fall.
