  • Ex-wife's partner has supervised contact with his kids

    Hoping to get some clarity and reassurance about where I stand in this situation;

    I separated from my ex-wife over 2 years ago, divorced since June 2021. We have 2 children, I have them 3 nights a week. We both have new partners.

    I was recently made aware that her partner is unable to see his own (3) children unless supervised at a contact centre, when asked why this was, I was told it was nothing to worry about and it was because his ex-wife was disgruntled about financial issues from their divorce and is using the children as leverage. Weaved into this response was a mild threat which raised suspicions.

    My understanding is that supervised contact is only ever arranged when there is a serious concern.

    I’ve submitted an application via local police under Sarah’s law to obtain information about potential risks, so I’m waiting on that.

    Should I be concerned? Am I overreacting?

    The explanation sounds unlikely. Financial issues between former spouses should not affect the terms of Child Arrangements Orders.

    Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.
