  • Decree Absolute = Surname Query

    hi all,

Im finding it hard to explain this situation - hope this is clear

I got divorced in 2005 and am getting married again in 2025 and so i needed a copy of my decree absolute.
The divorce names me as Mrs XXX ABC now known as xyz (my maiden name)

However, I never changed my surname to ABC (my ex husbands surname) and always kept it as my maiden name. When we completed all court documents back then i would have only used my maiden name.

In order to get remarried i need to show proof that i changed my name back to Burke, however it was always Burke - so im slightly confused on what to do. I cant get through to my local council to get any answers. I did some searching online and i think i may be okay if i can show my marriage certificate which shows my maiden name also.

Has anyone any experience in this?
